Regular Hardwood Care & Maintenance
Even in the middle of a busy week, you can still keep your stunning wood floors shining.
Follow these helpful considerations to make the process even easier.
Preventative Hardwood Care
Start by using mats at all entranceways and encouraging guests to scrape their footwear before walking inside. In stormy, wet, or snowy conditions, place racks by the door for footwear to keep dirt, mud, slush, and moisture from touching your wood floors. If you have pets, keep their nails trim to prevent scratches and brush them regularly to reduce the amount of dander in the home. Use area rugs with the appropriate backing for hardwood to add an extra layer of protection against foot traffic and spills.
Removing Dirt & Debris
Dirt, dust, and debris will become abrasive particles if not removed in a timely manner and scrape against the hardwood surface. Sweep with a gentle bristle broom or dust-mop as frequently as possible to remove these particles effectively. Vacuum your area rugs frequently as well to keep particles on the rugs from reaching your floors.
Treating Spills & Stains
If a spill does occur on your hardwood, treat it as promptly as possible to prevent a moisture damage from occurring. Gently lift any solid material with a spoon and paper towels. Then, gently wipe the spill from the perimeter towards the center with a dry, clean cloth or paper towels. Use a gentle hardwood-specific cleaner to spot treat if necessary and consult your hardwood manufacturer's warranty before mopping or using a Swiffer WetJet system. Always ensure a completely dry surface after treating spills on hardwood.
