Regular Area Rug Care & Maintenance
Even in the middle of a busy week, you can still keep your dazzling area rugs blemish-free.
Follow these helpful considerations to make the process even easier.
Preventative Area Rug Care
Start by using mats at all entranceways and encouraging guests to scrape their footwear before walking inside. In stormy, wet, or snowy conditions, place racks by the door for footwear to keep dirt, mud, slush, and moisture from touching your rugs. If you have pets, keep their nails trim to prevent snags and brush them regularly to reduce the amount of dander in the home. Also, use area rug pads underneath your pieces to hold the rugs in place, help your rugs wear slower, and help them wear more evenly.
Removing Dirt & Debris
Dirt, dust, and debris will become abrasive particles if not removed in a timely manner and become mashed into the rug pile. This step is the number one key to maintaining the premium condition of your area rugs: Vacuum as frequently as possible with an appropriate model that matches your rug construction to remove these particles effectively. Consult with your area rug manufacturer’s warranty before investing in a robot vacuum cleaner. If your rugs cannot be vacuumed, take them outside and shake loose as much dirt and particles as possible.
Treating Spills & Stains
If a spill does occur on your rug, treat it as promptly as possible to prevent a permanent stain from forming. After gently lifting any solid material with a spoon, begin blotting the spill from the perimeter towards the center with a dry, clean cloth and warm water. Repeat this step if needed and use a gentle carpet-specific cleaner to spot treat if necessary. We recommend at least one professional rug cleaning annually to remove any residual spills or stains completely.
