About Tile Installation
In order to make your new tile installation as smooth as possible, follow
these helpful considerations for an efficient process with minimal displacement.
Before Tile Installation
Start by removing all furniture, electronics, and wall hangings from the rooms and closets receiving new tile. Since tile can’t be installed over an existing floor, you will need to have the current floors removed and disposed of entirely. Make sure to complete all painting in the room and remove doors if the new tile raises the flooring height. Once your subfloor is professionally assessed and any repairs are made to ensure a completely smooth surface, you are ready for installation!
During Tile Installation
On the day of your new tile installation, plan to be home and answer any questions that may arise for your installation crew. Designate a specific area in the home for your crew to keep installation tools, mix grout, keep boxes of tiles, and cut tile as needed. Keep all children and pets away from the worker’s area and the rooms receiving new floors. Make sure to establish proper ventilation in the home as instructed by your installation crew.
After Tile Installation
Once your new tile installation is complete, it is important to wait for the specified time before walking in the rooms and returning furniture. This will allow time for the grout to cure, allow the floor to set, and prevent an uneven surface. When returning furniture to your rooms, always use proper equipment with wheels or lift pieces to avoid scratching the tile. We also recommend using felt protectors under the legs of heavy furniture to reduce impact and crushing over time.
